submission guidelines
We ask that you read our About page before submitting to get a feel for us and the type of content we publish. We recommend that you also review some of our previously accepted work. That said, we welcome change, experimentation and variety. If you're not sure, take a chance on us!
We aim to be a safe and inviting space. Both new and established voices are welcome. We're not formal and we're not tied to tradition or structure. We publish different mediums and styles from people with all levels of experience. People deserve to tell their own stories. Everyone is welcome to submit, but marginalized voices and underrepresented narratives will be prioritized.
We welcome simultaneous submissions, but please let us know right away if your work is accepted elsewhere. We are currently only accepting original written work (both online and in print). If you'd like us to share something already published, don't despair! Please DM us on Twitter. We'll see what we can do. For other mediums, we do not require that work is original.
By moving forward with an acceptance, you grant us the right (pleasure!) to share your submitted work on the platform you apply to you. That said, you own your art at all times. Please feel free to submit it elsewhere, publish it personally, etc. following inclusion in sea foam (...we would of course majorly appreciate a shout out as the original publisher)! You're also free to request that your work be removed from online and future print runs at any time.
If your work isn't a fit this time, we promise we still love it and encourage you to try again. We receive a high volume of submissions and many of our contributors submit multiple times before we are able to publish them. If your work is a fit, we'd love for you to keep in touch - ask us to share future work and keep us in mind for future submissions!
We're also committed to social responsibility and accountability. We reserve the right to pull publications at any time. We welcome feedback from our readers and contributors if there are any concerns about work or authors we have promoted, or our platform in general.

online journal submissions
We publish online weekly. Submissions of quite literally any medium are encouraged. Send your poetry, prose (fiction or non-fiction), interviews, illustrations, photography, paintings, music, hybrids and anything else you think we would like! We unfortunately do not have the resources to consider entire chapbooks, long stories, scripts, etc. As a general rule, we are not able to accept submissions over five (full, single-spaced) pages. If you would like to submit something a bit longer, please feel free to send us an email and inquire about our current submission pool, resources, etc. - if we have the means, we're flexible.
print submissions
We publish themed print publications quarterly in June, September, December and March. Our print issues are limited to poetry, short prose (1,000 words or under) and all types of visual art, or any combination of the three. Our upcoming issue is titled "Occupying a Body Occupying a Space". Broadly, we are looking for work that explores the intersections of identity and environment. Submissions for this issue will close on May 1, 2020.
There is a $3 fee to submit to print issues. You will be directed to a payment page upon submission of the form. Alternatively, you can email sydney@seafoammag.com for other payment options or to request that we waive the fee - no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Print submissions that do not arrive alongside either a payment or an email will not be considered.
Print issue contributors will receive a mailed copy of the publication. We're new to the whole physical issue thing and we'll use the first few publications to feel out costs. In the future, we hope to also be able to compensate print issue contributors.
