you put your hands on my face in the streetlight by katherine clark

5/2/2016

& i felt the colors of you
you're looking at me in lilac / 6am palette:
                                                                                       / indigo shadows
                                                                                     / white linen

(my knees red with these mornings we’ve been spending
                                                                                                   staining each other)
you put your face in my shoulder &
                                                             i wanted bottlerockets
                                                                         –bruce springsteen
                                                                         –4th of july smoke
i wanted to wear a white shirt
                                                                                                          with grass stains
on my back
in the shape of showing you’ve been
                                                                          lying on top of me
call me great in gingham
call me your boyfriend as you kiss the perfume off my neck
throw out my calendar
                                   say we have time
& ask me not to forget my watch
i’ll meet you anywhere nearly not public
hold my hand like a swallow
yours truly whispered softly
(just promise not to kiss me before you walk away)
